CIDADE CRIATIVA/Cultural Transformations
The organization, created in January of 2010, brings together a multigenerational interdisciplinary collective of professionals who, understanding the role of culture in the future of cities, develop local and international projects and initiatives, which emphasize the role of arts and culture as drivers of urban and social transformation.
Cidade Criativa has been responsible for the project Rio Creative City 2010 - 2020, which encompasses several initiatives, among which the International Forum Rio Creative City, an annual event, held in partnership with the City Government / Culture Department and the Museum of Modern Art of Rio de Janeiro - RJ MAM. The Forum had its fifth edition in 2015: in addition to presenting themes of immediate local interest and numerous artistic performances, has been the site for the participatory discussions of the Agenda 21 for Culture / RJ. As part of the project, Cidade Criativa published the book "Culture as Fourth Pillar of Development", including the collaboration of artists and professionals who presented at the Forum.
The organization headquarters is located in a historic house in the pleasant neighborhood of Laranjeiras, in Rio de Janeiro. The house is managed by a collective of artists, who have their studios there, and share common facilities. Previous to the pandemic, the collective included the photographer Adriano Fagundes, the fashion designer Luiza Marcier, the street artist Alberto Tito Serrano, and the Regina Miranda & ActorsDancers Company. Currently, the LABAN Rio and the Regina Miranda & ActorsDancers Company share the space.
